On Saturday, August 1st, 41 Suffolk County library teams descended upon the Javits Center at Stony Brook University to battle - with books! Eight titles were made public back on May 15th to the library teams, and they had a mere eleven weeks to read and memorize almost every single detail.
With morning, afternoon, and evening sessions taking place, three teams rose to the top of the scoreboard: Hauppauge, Sayville, and Longwood. Our wild card spot was tied between Commack and Babylon libraries, resulting in a tie-breaker round Monday, August 3rd back at the Javits Center before the semi final rounds began.
After intense questioning by judge Julie DeLaney, the Babylon team eked out Commack. Battle Host Extraordinaire Derek Ivie then took over to conduct the semi-final and final rounds - complete with a high tech iPhone coin toss to ensure no coin would be left unturned!
Two semi-final rounds later left Hauppauge and Longwood to battle it out in the final round...
