As many of you may have heard, the YOUTHNET listserv (along with most of the other SCLS listservs) will be saying goodbye on December 31st, 2016. Over the next few months, announcements and postings will migrate over to our
Discussion Forums, the new home for announcements and discussions. It's a completely different format, but one that will make it much easier to follow the threads of conversations and view all new announcements in one convenient place (rather than digging through your inbox and chasing days-long email chains). You can add attachments to posts just like you can to emails, so you'll still be able to send program announcements and fliers. The best part is, you can subscribe to posts with your email address and receive emails when someone posts, so you'll still get updates whenever there's new news!
To log into the Discussion Forums, you'll use your SCLS Call Center Login. Don't have one? No problem! If you're an employee of one of our member libraries (sorry, non-Suffolk librarian readers!), just email
help@suffolknet.org that you need to set up a login, and they'll get you going.
Once you're in, you'll see a set of discussions that will look something like this:
Those headings next to question marks in grey circles are the Discussion Forum Categories. Scroll down just a bit and you'll find the Youth Services Discussion Forum. Click on it to see all of the Youth Services discussions; these are the equivalent of email threads, and clicking on one opens up all the posts, which are equivalent to individual emails. To start a new discussion, click on the blue button in the top right corner:
You'll be able to craft your message after that. Start lots of great discussions! These will be created by YOU, the librarians and library staff. See that grey button under "Start a New Topic" that says Following? That means I get emails whenever someone posts. When you first start out in the forums, it will say "Follow." Click it to receive emails about that thread. You can follow the whole discussion (i.e., get emails whenever anyone starts any new discussion in Youth Services), or just follow individual discussions (i.e,, receive emails only when someone posts to Upcoming Program Announcements or other threads that interest you).
To add your own comment and/or information to an ongoing discussion, scroll to the bottom of the page to the text box at the bottom. Type in your information and click the Post Comment button. That's it!
