Warm Community Service

As, what experts are calling, an arctic blast is making its way down from the north and bringing the uber cold temperatures to us we know that wearing the right gear is essential. Riverhead Free Library is helping their community members stay warm by collecting hats and mittens throughout the winter season to donate. Head of Youth and Family Services Librarian Laurie Harrison writes, "We collected about 275 hats, scarves, gloves, blankets (etc) and donated them to the LI Council of Churches and to the Family Service League for distribution to their clients." Riverhead's seasonal giving doesn't end there! Laurie continues, "We also donated books to the two area Head Starts and we collected about 200 items for our annual November Shelter Animal donation boxes." For more information about their book donations you can read about it here and take a look at their animal goodies below. Congratulations on your amazing benevolent feats!
