First Snow by Peter McCarty

The Blizzard of 2015 has come and gone and we are faced with walls of white all around us. Sometimes the best way to deal with that nonsense is to curl up with a good book! Since this was our first major storm of the year I had to grab Peter McCarty's First Snow. Lisa mentioned this title in her 2015 Spring Picture Book Round-Up: Part 2 post for good reason! The opening of the book has cream colored pages filled with anthropomorphic critters welcoming their cousin Pedro into their home. Pedro is visiting his family from a far away place that is rarely cold and never snows! At first he doesn't think he will like it, but sure enough once he gets out there, all bundled-up, he plays with his cousins and the other kids on the block and soon find himself loving it.The beautiful pencil and watercolor illustrations bring our little woodland creatures to life in this snowy time of the year. Share this at a chilly themed warm story time and with those who may be new to New York. The thought of never seeing snow may be odd to us who have lived here our whole lives, but to some who are just arriving it could be a fun new experience just like it is for Pedro!
