Bilingual: 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street

Looking out our windows today I am sure we are seeing snow, salt and of course trucks! 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street is a board book with various huge trucks that helps the reader count all the way up to twenty. Trouble starts when the ice cream truck breaks down in the middle of the street and trucks two through twenty start piling up behind it. It is only with the creative thoughts of one little boy that the problem is solved and there may just be a sweet reward for him at the end.  The rhyming text is fantastic and the illustrations are clean and colorful. Any young one can enjoy the book including our young Spanish speakers. This story has also been published in Spanish as Veinte Camiones Grandes en Medio de la Calle. What I loved the most is that the text even rhymes in the Spanish version! With slight word changes to make things flow a little smoother the story stays the same with our "camion de helados" (ice cream truck) starting all the trouble again. Pair these books together for your bilingual story time and DIA programs. Pictured below is a two page spread and close up of the text on the page. While looking at the snow today enjoy some "rico helado" (tasty ice cream) and 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street.

In English truck 19 delivers meat and in the Spanish version it is a little more specific with "carne fresca" (fresh meat) and "jamones" (hams)!
